Staying Safe with DSE - Fixed DSE (ROSPA Endorsed)

This course deals with DSE that is used in association with a permanently sited workstation and is not designed to be carried or moved from place to place – in other words the type of DSE that is found in most office workplaces. Millions of people in the UK use this type of display screen equipment for a significant part of their work, and one of the results of this widespread use is an increasing concern about the associated range of health and safety problems. This course, therefore, aims to enable the learner to work safely when using fixed display screens, keyboards, and pointing devices. This course forms part of a suite of four courses, the first being a general overview of working safely with DSE, the second being this course, and the other two dealing with fixed workstations and mobile DSE. The duration of this course is 20 minutes and can be completed over multiple sessions. By the end of this course you will be able to: • State how to use a keyboard and computer mouse safely • Describe how health problems can arise from incorrect use of a keyboard or mouse • Understand how to position a display screen for safe working • Explain the legal requirements for safe use of display screens
